Dr. Klemens Meyer

Member, Scientific Advisory Board

Dr. Klemens Meyer has treated kidney failure using peritoneal dialysis since 1987. He served as Tufts Medical Center’s Director of Dialysis Services from 1992-2022,  and continues to direct the home dialysis program operated by Dialysis Clinic, Inc. at DCI Somerville. Under his leadership, that program has grown from 15 to more than 50 patients, and is the largest in New England.  Dr. Meyer serves as Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine, where he received the Distinguished Faculty Award.  He served as President of the Forum of ESRD Networks, and is a member of the Renal Disease and Detoxification Committee of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation.

A mentor once described Dr. Meyer as “a ferocious patient advocate.” He has worked throughout his career to ensure that all patients have access to home dialysis, to educate nephrology fellows about home dialysis, and to make the treatment of kidney failure truly patient-centered.

Dr. Meyer is known by his colleagues as forthright, almost to a fault. As an uncompensated member of the Scientific Advisory Board, he helps to guide Byonyks in developing safe, effective, and globally accessible dialysis solutions.
